Station XIV
Jesus Is Laid in the Tomb
Oil, charcoal, and gold leaf on corrugated paper
Holy Saturday... the silence between the crucifixion and the Resurrection. In silent aloneness we reflect things heard, things seen. It is the place of memorial scars, surface numbness with life beneath: marks born of pain. In the silence we feel the scars and we remember the pain.
The silence between the notes allows music to be known.
The silence between the crucifixion and the Resurrection was fixed between two notes of the Greatest Song given to men, a space of time when the orchestra of creation awaited the Conductor's hand.
Today is the silence between.
Tomorrow is Resurrection Day.
